Volkswagens own literature were in the 50's known for good design, nice photos and drawings. A new edition was printed for each new model or major tecnical change. |
Also the advertising were known for its straight and easy message, as "Air doesn't freeze" och "Noboby knows how old a Volkswagen can be". |

In the handbooks you can follow the matter of fashion through the years. Photos showing the same moment in the handbook was taken in the same angle, but "the man who was working" had different pattern on the jacket at the photos in the handbooks in the different versions. |

Front page of 1958 Type 1 sales brochure. (Printed in November 1957) The pictures were drawn by Bernd Reuters who during many years were illustrating the Volkswagen sales brochures. The pictures were often drawn in a slight wrong scale, the passengers in the car were drawn a little bit too small. The result was that the car seemingly looked a little bit bigger than what it really was... |
