Born in 1957 in Arnhem, Netherlands. I studied biology at Utrecht State University from 1975 to 1982. I got my PhD from the Faculty of Geology at the same university in 1990 on a thesis called "A revision of the Pliocene and Quaternary Lutrinae from Europe". I have been involved in research concerning island evolution under the guidance of the late Dr Paul Y. Sondaar, and done some work on cervids in this respect. I have also been working on pleistocene faunas during a number of years when working at the Archaeological Dep. of the Arnhem Museum (Netherlands, mid-1980-ies). Carnivores have all the time had my special interest.
During 1993-1996 I studied some theology at the Theological Seminary at Lidingö (Stockholm), which explains my interest in the field of Science and Theology, especially evolutionary theory and theology. I am currently (spring 2003) working on a book on this subject.
